YOUR POWER.

OUR UNIT(Y)

OUR MISSION

We are a community committed to empowering military-affiliated women including active duty, veterans, reservists, spouses, and family members and their allies by fostering a supportive and inclusive environment. Through mentorship, advocacy, educational resources, and shared experiences, we aim to honor the unique challenges and strengths that come with military life. Our goal is to build a space where all members feel seen, valued, and connected, while promoting leadership, resilience, and a deep sense of belonging.

OUR
STORY

When Esmeralda Cueva became a Veterans Counselor at Cypress College, she noticed something missing a visible space for military-affiliated women. Her own experience as a VA work-study student had been male-dominated, lacking the sisterhood she once knew in the military.

Determined to change that, Esmeralda created Women’s Unit(y) a space where women veterans could be seen, heard, and supported through their transition from service to student life. More than just academic support, it’s a place to rebuild, connect, and grow.

For the women who serve—and continue to serve this space was built for you.

Meet Our Founder

Esmeralda Cueva is a dedicated Veterans Counselor whose passion for supporting military-affiliated students is deeply rooted in her own journey from serving in the Army to navigating higher education. She began her academic path at Fullerton College, earned a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from CSU Fullerton, and completed a Master’s in Educational Counseling at the University of La Verne. Each step of her educational and professional journey has strengthened her commitment to helping fellow veterans thrive in their academic and personal pursuits. Esmeralda is also the founder and advisor of Women’s Unit(y), a student organization that empowers military-affiliated women through leadership, community, and sisterhood. Supporting women as they find strength in unity is one of the most rewarding aspects of her work.
